Alliance for Progress Charter School seeks to provide a
comprehensive, high quality education for more than 290 children
in grades K-5. Located in the heart of North Philadelphia, a few
blocks from Temple University, APCS serves children and families
from the local community and beyond.
APCS offers a well-rounded curriculum
featuring music, art and physical education along with language
arts, mathematics, social studies and science. Technology is
integrated into all subjects, and students spend at least two
periods each week on lessons taught in our computer lab.
Our maximum class size is 22 in the
kindergarten and 25 in grades 1-5. Full time teaching assistants
help to provide individualized instruction for students in grades
K-3.
The school is governed by a Board of
Trustees that meets monthly to decide school policy and evaluate
the school's progress in relation to its mission. Members of the
school's founding agency, The Women's Christian Alliance, along
with representatives of the local community and the city of
Philadelphia serve on the school's board.
Focused on building community, APCS
insists on parent involvement in the life of the school. An active
Parent Advisory Board advises the school administration, and three
members of the Parent Advisory Board serve on the school's Board
of Trustees.
