Student Code of Conduct
At Alliance for Progress Charter
School we strive to create a model learning community. We ask
everyone connected to our school, teachers, students, staff,
parents, grandparents and members of the surrounding community to
assist in that effort.
We expect our students to follow the
highest standard of conduct at all times. Specifically, students
are required to:
Show respect for themselves, their
classmates and teachers;
Respect the school facility;
Be truthful;
Try their best at all times;
Attend school every day;
Wear their uniforms to school;
Arrive at school on time and ready to learn;
Complete all homework assignments to the best of their ability;
Treat each other fairly, as they want to be treated;
Try to resolve their differences peacefully or bring disputes to
the attention of a teacher or the principal;
Speak respectfully to each other and to teachers and staff;
Help keep the school clean and neat;
Obey all classroom and school rules;
Cooperate with all school personnel;
Show pride in their school.
We ask parents and guardians to
review these expectations with children and to support them.
Children who do not observe the school’s code of conduct may be
asked to attend another school.
Important School Policies
Student Medical Records
The school is required by law to
enforce state policies relating to vaccinations and other medical
tests and examinations. If the school does not have current
medical information about students, or a student has not received
mandatory vaccinations, that student will not be able to attend
school until parents/guardians show proof that required procedures
have been performed.
Emergency Contact Information
We must have emergency contact
information on file for each student at all times. In case of an
emergency, the school must know who will be responsible for your
child. Additional Emergency Contact Forms are always available in
the school office if the information changes during the year.
Children who do not have emergency contact information on file
will not be allowed to attend school.
Attendance Policy
Except when they are sick or in cases
of a family emergency, children are expected to attend school
every day. We hold our children to high academic standards, which
they can only meet if they are present each day for the entire
school day. Children who do not attend school regularly will not
be able to progress to the next grade.
Each month the school will recognize
the class with the highest attendance rate. In addition, any child
with perfect or near perfect attendance will receive an award at
the end of the school year. We ask parents to support these
efforts by appreciating their children for attending school every
day.
Lateness Policy
We expect all children to be at
school by 8:20 AM and in their classrooms ready to start the
school day by 8:30. Parents or guardians of children who arrive
after 8:30 must come into the school office and sign them in.
If a child is chronically late, the
school will call parents/guardians and ask them to come in for a
conference. Chronic lateness may force us to ask a family to leave
the charter school.
Uniforn Policy
The Parent Association of APCS voted
to require the children to wear uniforms. Uniforms consist of blue
pants, jumpers or skirts, and white, yellow or light blue tops. We
expect every child to be in uniform every day. If a child does not
arrive at school in uniform, s/he will be given a uniform to put
on or parents/guardians will be called and asked to pick up the
child. To avoid embarrassing the children, please make sure they
wear the school uniform every day.
Special Education Policy
The federal government requires all
public schools to provide special, individualized instruction to
children who are identified as in need of special services.
Occasionally teachers identify children who have particular
learning needs and refer them for testing. Parents also sometimes
ask that their children be evaluated.
At APCS we have a full time special
education teacher as well as a reading specialist on our
instructional staff. Although we try as much as possible to keep
all students in their regular classrooms, children are sometimes
taken out of class for special instruction. We ask for parental
cooperation in the effort to identify students with special needs
and provide them with appropriate services. If at any time parents
have any concerns about a student’s progress, they should speak
with the classroom teacher, Assistant Principal and/or Principal
immediately.
The government provides information
about the rights of parents and guardians to seek and receive
special education for children. For a copy of this information,
please contact the special education teacher or the school office.
