Dr. Eric S. Langston Sr. is proud to serve as Principal of Alliance for Progress Charter School, where he is committed to ensuring every student experiences academic excellence, belonging, and opportunity. With more than 15 years of leadership experience in urban public and charter schools, Dr. Langston believes that every child can achieve high levels of success when schools cultivate strong relationships, maintain high expectations, and provide exceptional instruction. He is passionate about developing teachers and leaders, partnering with families, and building a joyful, student-centered culture where scholars are challenged to think critically, lead with character, and grow into lifelong learners. Dr. Langston's leadership is grounded in the belief that education has the power to transform lives, and he is honored to lead the Alliance for Progress community in preparing every student for success in school and beyond.

Serving the AFPCS Community has been one of my greatest passions for the past 19 years. There are many fibers that formulate my DNA, however, motherhood, a love for children, and a love for learning strongly impact my career/life choices and pathway to becoming a champion for education.

My path in educational leadership started when I left the world of banking to start up an early preschool business. Serving infants, preschoolers, and after-school students for 5 years provided the experience needed to move into the newly established charter movement.

In 1998, I was recruited and hired to lead a charter school in Washington, D.C., serving in the area of curriculum and development. This school presented a whirlwind of development and training in research-based curricula, assessments, data, student performance, and enrollment. It was trial by fire, 3 years of helping to build the school’s academic program; but the experience provided all that was needed to become the 3rd appointed Chief Executive Officer of Alliance for Progress Charter School (K-5) in 2003.

Elevating the school’s mission was the primary focus as we worked to build our educational programming on the philosophy of John Dewy, spotlighting the importance of the imagination that drives thinking and learning.

Early on, AFPCS earned several Pennsylvania Keystone awards for meeting adequate yearly progress in 2003-2008. Our commitment to education was second to none as our students demonstrated their love for imagination and exploratory learning.

My passage with the Alliance community extended throughout the years. As a dedicated servant Leader to AFPCS, I have worked as an educational consultant, long-time board member, Chief Academic Officer, and once again currently as the school’s Chief Executive Officer!

We’ve expanded our mission to include the integration of technology as we continue to advance the framework of 21st century learning. Alliance has a proud history of educating students and families in North Philadelphia. Our legacy continues with the renewal of our 6th charter, our academic success story of “Beating the Odds” with substantial growth in reading and math despite the global pandemic.

Stable attendance and enrollment rates, a diverse community of educators and staff, a brand-new K-5 faculty, and a thriving academic program. We are student-focused and committed to the success of our amazing students and our school.
